Rethinking Our Place in the World

The last two lessons have examined our place in the world, as some of the wealthiest and most privileged people living in the Global North.

We have:

  • Reflected upon, and written about the documentary 'Virgunga' - this was an assignment that was handed in.  If you missed this class, then please review the writing prompts and write about your thoughts and ideas.
  • Explored some myths about Africa and the idea of poverty - see powerpoint here.
  • Discussed our need to 'rethink' our ideas about resource management.
In particular, we are looking at rethinking:

1. Our concept of a good life and what we need to be happy.  Notes & Assignment here
2. Our political and economic systems that promote inequity in the world
3. Our consumption habits and patterns.
  • We debriefed our ecological footprint quizzes and discussed 'dirty' products that we might need to think about avoiding.
Our next case study will be looking at forests as a natural resource.  We will examine them in detail using the Study guide and our explorations outside to help us understand them better.
