Today's class focused specifically on the issue of Desertification. Desertification refers to the process of usable and productive arable land becoming 'unusable'. Generally, areas that are adjacent or beside deserts are often grasslands, where we grow food. When deserts 'spread' or the grasslands become destroyed due to poor farming practices, we call this soil degradation/desertification.

Here is an excellent short film trailer called "The Man Who Stopped The Desert" about the ways in which Indigenous/Local Knowledge can help us solve the problem of desertification. It is important that you have read Chapter 36 in your Study Guide (Block 2 you have this as a handout), and are clear on different solutions for soil desertification.
