Glaciers - Part 1

Today we started our last gradational unit, which will be the study of glaciers and melting ice.  The focus today was to determine what the two main types of glaciers were, examine some pictures of real-life glacial locations, and discuss the 'evidence' that glaciated landscapes possess (ex. U-shaped Valleys and truncated spurs).   We also discussed how glaciers are formed, and were introduced to some of the basic features.

Here is the powerpoint from today's class, as well as the homework and worksheet that went along with it.  You need to complete the reading guide, as well as the vocab terms for the beginning of next class.

I also collected your current events assignment on glaciers - please ensure that that is complete by the beginning of next day.   Next day's class will include a review of different glacial features, as well as some analysis of some authentic documents (ski maps, etc.).

For those of you that missed class, we also watched 15 minutes of the documentary 'Mountain'.  It is available to stream on Netflix - we started at the place in the movie where there is 41 minutes and 22 seconds left, and watched until the beginning of the section on Tibet.

Enjoy the snow!
