Fragile Environments - Forests

We are starting our new unit.  On Thursday's class we explored our forests outside the portable, and learned about trees firsthand.

We have now completed two full classes that have examined the importance of Forests as Fragile Environments.    So far we have:

  • Examined forests outside the classroom - noticed the difference between coniferous and deciduous trees, and the mixed forest that exists around us - TEMPERATE RAINFOREST
  • Reviewed the first set of Forest notes that are from pages 130-132 in the Study Guide.  This is an overview of the 4 main types of forests that exist.
  •  Started the first half of the Forest Powerpoint - examining images of the 4 types of forests so that we can start to identify them, and recognize how beautiful they are.
  • Begun our examination of the Great Bear Rainforest case study - this needs to be handed in on Friday in class.  In order to complete the assignment, you need to read the CBC article, and use this Open Schools resource to answer the questions.
