Today our key theme is focusing on the ways in which we can investigate place and location using various forms of technology. When we think about technology, our definition can be broad. Innovative ideas, things like maps and the art of cartography, and then more complex notions like Google Mars and Venus, and VR glasses.
Our job today is to play around with the various forms of sophisticated technology that exist, and examine the notion of location and place in new ways. We will be playing around with the following:
1. Orientation Compasses
2. VR Cardboard Glasses
3. Interactive Maps like native-land.ca
4. Narrative maps like Atlas Obscura
5. Google Earth, Google Mars and Google Venus
We are trying to answer the question "In what ways can technology be used to investigate the diverse nature of place and location." You will be expected to answer a variation of this question in paragraph form, with diverse pieces of evidence, at the end of this unit.
Here is the Geography Lab #1 in case you were away.
If you were attending the Climate Strike (awesome!), you are excused from the assignment.
