Quiz Outline - Plate Boundaries

Reminder that you will have a quiz on Plate Boundaries on Thursday, October 24th.  It will be short and sweet, and is simply a check-in to see if you can get the basics of Plate Tectonics, before we move forwards into the more applied sections of the unit.

Quiz Outline: Students should be able to:


Describe the structure of the earth’s interior, and explain how this knowledge has come about. 

Be familiar with notion of convection currents as key energy source for tectonic activity     

Explain the theory of continental drift & Pangea

 Distinguish between and give examples of the four types of plate boundaries
     Converging – collision
     Converging – subduction
     Diverging
     Transform

  You should be able to label specific world map locations with – PLATE BOUNDARY TYPE + WHETHER OR NOT IT HAS EARTHQUAKES/VOLCANOES

    Identify the types of landforms produced (mid-ocean ridge, trench, rift zone, etc.) at each plate boundary

  Identify plate boundary types by looking at diagrams
   Understand the notion that the movement of the earth’s plates is all connected, and works as a ‘recycling process’
