On Friday of last week we started our second unit of the year, called Tectonics. This unit will involve the study of super interesting processes like hot springs, volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis. We will explore the causes of natural processes like these, and then we will examine how they affect humans through case studies like the 2004 Sumatran Earthquake, the Japanese Tsunami of 2008, and the volcanic explosion of Pompeii.
For our intro lesson, we answered some philosophical questions about the origin of the earth, and then we started to explore what the earth was made of. We did an overview of the unit, and watched the video:
Everything you need to know about Planet Earth - In a Nutshell
Homework was to ensure that the intro questions using This Earth are complete for next day. Here is the short powerpoint that we reviewed as an overview of the unit.
