Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a lovely long weekend and got a chance to catch up with friends, family - even if it was virtually. Hopefully you also got some sleep and rest! Thanks to all of you who posted your pictures of your nature walks outside - they are awesome. I love seeing your pictures and appreciate you trying to create some normalcy during this challenging time.
Due Today: Weather Around Me Assignment - hand in weather charts and questions.
Summary of Today's Class:
Today we discussed the basics of the Atmosphere. This is a sphere that we will touch on only briefly, but I do think its an important for us to explore briefly, since we are in the midst of exploring the water cycle. Tomorrow, we will begin taking a look at alpine glaciers and what 'glaciated land' looks like, and so its important that we understand how ice and snow end up on mountain tops anyways!
Today was a short class, with both of our classes split in two. We did the following:
- Watched a powerpoint on the introduction to the Atmosphere, and did some review questions
- We took a look at the layers of the atmosphere
- We examined what happens to temperature and air pressure in the troposphere
- We looked briefly at Climate Change, Ozone layer and Acid Rain as issues that relate to the atmosphere
- Reviewed the basics of the Atmosphere, and reviewed this booklet together
- Reviewed the Weather Around Me assignment that is due today
- Discussed the key types of rain, and emphasized the importance of understanding Orographic Precipitation
