Ecology & You: Our Last Unit

After wrapping up our Oceans unit, we have now moved on to our last unit of the course, which will focus on Ecology and the Biosphere.

Last class, we briefly reviewed some of the philosophical ideas behind our relationship to nature, and began thinking about the ways in which we perceived and viewed nature, as people living in Canada - a place dominated by Western, Euro-centric ideas.

Here are the brief philosophy activities that we did, as well as the Nature/Forest Scavenger Hunt that we did together.

Today's lesson online included a background to the study of Ecology, and also a discussion on forests & plant species, and their importance in our lives.  We also looked at the connections between forests and health, and discussed some of the adaptations that trees and plant species possess.

Here is the powerpoint: Intro to the Biosphere that we reviewed together, and the video of our online lecture is available on Teams.

During our lecture today, we discussed some of the scientific studies that are emerging that discuss the connection between our mental health, and happiness, with spending time in nature.  Check out the following links to learn more about that, and see the adorable video we watched last day.
