Weather and the Atmosphere

Last day's class was spent examining the structure of the atmosphere - the layers - and today's class will be spent on issues that are facing the earth's atmosphere. The three that we will focus on include air pollution, the ozone layer, and acid rain. Thanks to Ritu for the beautiful picture of the ozone layer.

For today's assignment you will choose one of the topics and create a powerpoint that summarizes the key aspects of the issue. Your powerpoint should include the following:

• Definition of the issue you have chosen - what is it?
• Causes of the issue - both physical (what's going on with the earth's processes), as well as any human contributions to the problem
• Effects of the issue on the planet and humans
• A "hot spot" - where in the world is being affected?
• Solutions - what has been done to help? what is being done in the future? Any important regulations, etc that have been put in place
• Bibliography - wikipedia can only be a source to check your info - can't be your main source. Need 3 sources including a news source

You must have a minimum of 8-12 slides, as well as visuals, graphs and maps to help explain the issues. You must also explain the visuals that you include. Bonus for including a movie clip - or at best a link to the video clip. Professionalism is important - no weird sounds, and no background photos behind your text - you'll be in college and university soon and they're going to expect great stuff from you.
