Today was Lesson 3 in our Weather/Atmosphere unit. We looked at the 3 types of rain, and reviewed the key concepts from last day.
NOTE - BLOCK 2 HAS A QUIZ ON THIS ON THURSDAY, BLOCK 6'S QUIZ ON THIS WILL BE NEXT FRIDAY, FEB 26TH.
Today's class: Here is the Handout - Weather - Lesson 3 & the Powerpoint - Lesson 3
1. We reviewed the idea of Global Wind Systems, Air Masses, Global Pressure Zones, and Local Winds like Chinooks. We also discussed the idea of the water cycle - transpiration, condensation, etc., as well as reviewing the main cloud types.
Your quiz next day will focus on these topics. Please use your booklet from last day, as well as the review page today to help you study.
quiz outline:
Air Masses - Chapter 19 - mT, cT, mP, mA, cA, cP
Global Winds and Air Pressure - Ch. 20 - be sure you have memorized the pressure zones as well as which ones connect to deserts/rainforests
Coriolis Effect - see video from last day if needed.
Water Cycle - Ch. 21 (evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, infiltration, surface run-off)
Cloud Types - Ch. 22 (cirrus, alto, stratus, cumulus, - nimbus)
2. We then took a look at the 3 main types of Precipitation - Orographic, Convectional and Frontal - Cold/Warm. The powerpoint will help you review the main concepts, as well as the diagrams that are a part of your note package for today.
We will continue reviewing precipitation next week in class, as we attempt to master the types of rainfall, and also the clouds associated with them. Hopefully this will help you learn to predict weather!
After that we acted out the forms of rainfall as Human Diagrams using dress-up clothes and it was very successful. Well done Block 2!
