We are into our second mini-unit on Resource Management and Biomes. Reminder that our 'quest' will be early next week - Monday/Tuesday - and you are allowed to use your Forest Study Guide sheet to help you.

- Notes on the 4 main forest types - Coniferous (Taiga), Deciduous, Temperate Rainforest and Tropical Rainforest
- Notes should include - physical geographic locations, key species, climate type, animals and plant species, risk and problems, adaptations of plants and animals.
- You should also focus on 2 main case studies - GREAT BEAR RAINFOREST & AMAZON
Study Guide Chapters - Ch. 31, 33 and parts of 34 that relate to forestry (ex. Pine Beetles, Forest Fires, etc.) Note that there is also information about the Great Bear and Boreal Forest in your study guide.

1. Why agreements like the Great Bear Rainforest have been possible in BC - what factors contribute to the success?
2. Why agreements to protect areas like the Amazon rainforest have been relatively unsuccessful, especially in terms of protecting indigenous cultures.
3. What are some of the risks facing the Amazon Rainforest (logging, land clearing for cattle ranching, hydroelectric dams, etc.) and some compelling reasons why it should be protected.
