Rivers - What are they, and why are they important?

 

After completing the Glaciers/Atmosphere/Water unit assignment, we are now moving on to the second half of our 'Source to Sea' unit.  We will be taking a look at: 

  • Rivers - Life Cycle, Famous Case Studies, Importance, and why they are at risk
  • Wetlands - What are they, and why are they important - ex. Deltas, marshlands, mangrove forests, etc.
  • Oceans - What are some of the issues facing them - overfishing, plastics, coral reefs, climate change
Last, we will end the unit off taking a look at solutions to some of the problems facing these water bodies.

For this section we explored both the cultural importance of rivers as well as their biological importance. We also discussed the notion of Rivers as Sacred Spaces
For this section we completed our "Top 10 Assignment" as well as explored different case studies of rivers around the world
